Start
If the Mediation Server is not configured to start automatically or if the Mediation Server is stopped, you can start it manually.
Stop
If you experience trouble with the server or if you make configuration changes that require you to restart the service, you can stop the Mediation Server and then start it again.
Deactivate
If you want to remove a Mediation Server from your Office Communications Server environment, you must first deactivate the server. The deactivation process disassociates any service accounts that were affiliated with the server upon activation. The deactivation process also removes the server's entries in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) so that the server can no longer be used by the pool.
