Keyboard shortcuts for navigating mail in Outlook
Many users find that using an external keyboard with keyboard shortcuts for Outlook on Windows helps them work more efficiently. For users with mobility or vision disabilities, keyboard shortcuts can be easier than using the touchscreen and are an essential alternative to using a mouse. This article itemizes the keyboard shortcuts for Outlook on Windows.
This topic focuses on keyboard shortcuts that you need when you navigate the Mail view in Outlook. For the Calendar view shortcuts, go to Keyboard shortcuts for navigating the calendar in Outlook.
Outlook is organized into views: Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Notes, and Journal. Each view includes a ribbon with commands at the top of the page, a Navigation pane, a Search bar, and an area with panes (for example, the Mail view has a Message list and a Reading pane).
Individual items may contain an InfoBar, a banner that appears near the top of an open or selected Outlook item, below the ribbon in an open item, and below the subject and sender in the Reading pane view, and provides information about the item (such as, "You are not responding to the latest message in this conversation. Click here to open it.").
Notes:
-
The shortcuts in this topic refer to the US keyboard layout. Keys for other layouts might not correspond exactly to the keys on a US keyboard.
-
If a shortcut requires pressing two or more keys at the same time, this topic separates the keys with a plus sign (+). If you have to press one key immediately after another, the keys are separated by a comma (,).
