In Access 2010, you can create data macros that run when you add, update, or delete data in a table. This feature is similar to a "trigger" in Microsoft SQL Server. This video shows you how to create a simple data macro by using the updated Access Macro Designer.

Use this procedure to add a data macro to a table.

  1. In the Navigation Pane, double-click the table to which you want to add the macro.

  2. On the Table tab, in the Before Events or After Events group, click the event that you want to trigger the macro.

Access opens the Macro Designer. If a macro has already been created for this event, Access displays the macro.

  3. Build or edit your macro by dragging actions from the Action Catalog pane to the macro pane, and then filling in the required arguments for each action.

  4. When you are finished, click Close on the Design tab of the macro builder, and then click Yes to save your changes.
