Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010

Question/Issue

Answer/Workaround

Administration:

When trying run powershell cmdlets remotely, they fail for an unknown reason.

SharePoint cmdlets, when run remotely, have two unique requirements:

  • CredSSP is required. On any remote command you must provide credentials (via the -Credential Parameter)

You must set the -Authentication parameter value to be CredSSP.  This is so that powershell cmdlets have the proper credentials required to communicate with SQLAdditional memory beyond the default limit for remote powershell is often required for large operations. The default can be changed using the Set-Item cmdlet--here is the command to set the limit value to 1000MB: Set-Item WSMan:\localhost\Shell\MaxMemoryPerShellMB 1000
