Assign a hyperlink to a toolbar button or menu command

You can rearrange and change toolbar buttons, menus, and menu commands by using the mouse or you can use the Rearrange Commands dialog box, which you can access by using the keyboard. Tasks that you can accomplish by using the keyboard are identified as (keyboard accessible).

When you assign a hyperlink to a toolbar button or menu command, the hyperlink replaces the command currently assigned to that button or menu command. You cannot assign a hyperlink to a button that displays a list or menu when clicked.

Assign a hyperlink to a toolbar button or menu command

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize.

  2. Make sure the toolbar you want to change is visible.

    How?

    1. In the Customize dialog box, click the Toolbars tab.

    2. Select the check box for the toolbar you want to display.

  3. With the Customize dialog box open, do one of the following:

    To assign a hyperlink to a toolbar button

    1. Right-click the toolbar button.

    2. Point to Assign Hyperlink on the shortcut menu, and then click Open.

    To assign a hyperlink to a menu command

    1. Click the menu.

    2. Right-click the menu command.

    3. Point to Assign Hyperlink on the shortcut menu, and then click Open.

  4. Under Link to, click the source you want to link to.

  5. Select the options you want.

  6. In the Customize dialog box, click Close.

Assign a hyperlink to a toolbar button or menu command (keyboard accessible)

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize.

  2. Make sure the toolbar you want to change is visible.

    How?

    1. In the Customize dialog box, click the Toolbars tab.

    2. Select the check box for the toolbar you want to display.

  3. In the Customize dialog box, click the Commands tab.

  4. Click Rearrange Commands.

  5. Do one of the following:

    To assign a hyperlink to a toolbar button

    1. In the Rearrange Commands dialog box, click Toolbar.

    2. In the Toolbar list, click the toolbar that contains the button you want to assign a hyperlink to.

    3. In the Controls list, click the button.

    4. Click Modify Selection.

    5. Point to Assign Hyperlink on the shortcut menu, and then click Open.

    To assign a hyperlink to a menu command

    1. If the menu command you want to change is on the menu bar, click Menu Bar and then click the menu you want in the Menu Bar list.

      If the menu command you want to change is on a toolbar, click Toolbar, and then click the menu that you want in the Toolbar list. For example, click Drawing|Autoshapes to change a command on the AutoShapes menu on the Formatting toolbar.

    2. In the Controls list, click the menu command you want to assign a hyperlink to.

    3. Click Modify Selection.

    4. Point to Assign Hyperlink on the shortcut menu, and then click Open.

  6. Under Link to, click the source you want to link to.

  7. Select the options you want.
