Transfer files in a Lync chat room
You and other chat room participants can transfer (upload and download) files right from a chat room. Here's how:
-
From your chat room window, press Ctrl+F. (There's no dropdown menu for this action.)
-
Using the dialog window that now opens, navigate to the file you want to transfer and select it to begin the upload. (You can also drag and drop the file directly into the open chat room window.)
You can cancel the file transfer at any point until it's completed. When the upload is finished, a file image will appear in the chat room window. Anyone with access to the chat room can then select the file and download it to a destination they choose.
If you are saving your conversations, you can go to your conversation history to see a time-stamped record of the file transfer.
Here are a few things to keep in mind about this feature:
-
You can't use it to download files from a chat room to a mobile device.
-
Unless your administrator has changed the maximum file size, you won't be able to transfer any file larger than 20 MB. (You'll get an error message if you try to upload a file that's too big.)
