Number Shapes dialog box (Advanced tab)

Place number

Before shape text

Displays the number on the shape before any text.

After shape text

Displays the number on the shape after any text.

Apply to options

All layers

Applies shape numbering to all shapes on the drawing page regardless of the layer the shapes are on.

Selected layers

Applies shape numbering only to shapes on the layers you select from the list.

Auto numbering sequence

Left-right, Top-bottom

Numbers shapes according to their position on the drawing page. The sequence is from left to right and then from the top to the bottom of the page.

Top-bottom, Left-right

Numbers shapes according to their position on the drawing page. The sequence is from top to bottom and then from left to right on the page.

Back to front

Numbers shapes according to the order in which they were added to the drawing page. To change the order for a particular shape, select the shape, and then click the Bring Forward, Bring to Front, Send Backward, or Send to Back command.

Selection order

Numbers shapes according to the order in which you selected them before you opened this dialog box. To select multiple shapes, press SHIFT and click each shape.

Renumbering options

Allow duplicates in sequence

Indicates that when shapes are renumbered the original sequence will be preserved, even if the sequence includes duplicate numbers.

Strict sequence

Indicates that when shapes are renumbered any duplicate numbers are replaced by consecutive numbers in sequence.

Hide shape numbers

Hides shape numbers on both the drawing page and the printed page.

Exclude connectors

By default, connector shapes in a connected drawing are not numbered. Clear this check box if you want connector shapes to be numbered.
