Read out loud symbol with the label Screen reader content. This topic is about using a screen reader with Office

This article is for people who use a screen reader program with the Office products and is part of the Office Accessibility content set. For more general help, see Office Support home.

Use OneNote 2016 with your keyboard and Narrator, the built-in Windows screen reader, to zoom in or out on a page. You can temporarily change the size of what's on the page without messing up any formatting.

Notes:

You can enlarge or reduce the content of the page on the View ribbon tab. If your computer has a touch screen, you can use your fingers to pinch and stretch the page.

  1. On the page you want to zoom, do one of the following:

    • To magnify the current page and see a specific part of your notes up close (Zoom In), press Alt+Ctrl+Shift+plus sign (+).

    • To shrink the current page and see more of your notes at once (Zoom Out), press Alt+Ctrl+Shift+hyphen sign (-).

  2. To go back to the default setting, press Alt+W to go to the View ribbon tab, and then press 1 (one).

Tip: Select Zoom In and Zoom Out multiple times in a row to get the exact magnification you want. If you're not happy with the levels that OneNote applies at each selection, you can set a specific zoom level. Press Alt+W, Q, type the zoom percentage you want, and then press Enter.

  • This topic assumes you are using this app with a PC. Some navigation and gestures might be different for a Windows phone or tablet.

  • When you use OneNote Online, we recommend that you use Microsoft Edge as your web browser. Because OneNote Online runs in your web browser, the keyboard shortcuts are different from those in the desktop program. For example, you'll use Ctrl+F6 instead of F6 for jumping in and out of the commands. Also, common shortcuts like F1 (Help) and Ctrl+O (Open) apply to the web browser – not OneNote Online.

You can enlarge or reduce the content of the page using the Zoom in and Zoom out functions of Microsoft Edge.

  1. When using OneNote Online in Microsoft Edge, do one of the following:

    • To magnify the current page (Zoom In), press Ctrl+plus sign (+). You hear: "Zoom in."

    • To shrink the current page (Zoom out), press Ctrl+minus sign (+). You hear: "Zoom out."

  2. Select Zoom In and Zoom Out multiple times in a row to get the exact magnification you want.
