Timescale dialog box, Bottom, Middle, and Top Tier tabs
Use the Bottom Tier, Middle Tier, and Top Tier tabs in the Timescale dialog box to specify formatting and view options for these three tiers of the timescale for the current view. The bottom tier appears when you choose to show any of the three available tiers. The middle tier appears when you choose to show at least two of the three available tiers. The top tier appears when you choose to show all three available tiers. The default setting is to show two tiers: the middle and bottom tiers. The timescale appears in various views, such as the Gantt Chart, Task Usage view, and Resource Graph. You can:

Indicate whether you want one, two, or three levels of timescales.

Select which time unit is to appear in any or all tiers of the timescale.

Choose the date label to appear with any or all tiers of the timescale.

Specify a different type of timescale for each different view that uses a timescale.
Dialog box location
Display the view whose timescale you want to modify. On the Format menu, click Timescale. Click either the Bottom Tier, Middle Tier, or Top Tier tab.

Bottom tier formatting section
Units Specifies the time unit for the bottom timescale tier. Days is the default time unit for the bottom tier.
Count Specifies the interval between unit labels on the bottom timescale tier. For example, if the unit is weeks, and you type 2, the scale will be separated into two-week segments. For the bottom timescale tier, the default is 1.
Label Specifies a date format for the bottom timescale tier, for example, "12/12/08" or "Dec 12, '08." For the bottom timescale tier, the default label is in the format of "S, M, T, ...," representing the days of the week.
Align Specifies whether the label on the bottom timescale tier is left-aligned, centered, or right-aligned. By default, the label is centered.
Use fiscal year Specifies that the fiscal year, rather than the calendar year, is displayed for the project. For example, if the project's fiscal year 2009 begins on 1 October 2008, then views and printouts of the project that display the date show "October 2009" for October 2008.
Tick lines Shows vertical dividing lines between the labels. Clear the check box to hide vertical lines. By default, this check box is selected.
Middle tier formatting section
Units Specifies the time unit for the middle timescale tier. "Weeks" is the default time unit for the middle tier.
Count Specifies the interval between unit labels on the middle timescale tier. For example, if the unit is weeks, and you type 2, the scale will be separated into two-week segments. For the middle timescale tier, the default is 1.
Label Specifies a date format for the middle timescale tier, for example, "12/12/08" or "December 12." For the middle timescale tier, the default label is in the format of "Dec 12, '08."
Align Specifies whether the label on the middle timescale tier is left-aligned, centered, or right-aligned. By default, the label is left-aligned.

Timescale options section
Show Specifies the number of timescale tiers you want to display. The bottom tier is always shown. By default, Two tiers (Middle, Bottom) is selected, and the middle tier is shown. When you select Three tiers (Top, Middle, Bottom), the top tier is shown.
Size Reduces or enlarges the timescale so that you can see more or less time in the same space. Type a whole number between 25 and 1000.
Scale separator Shows horizontal lines separating the tiers of the timescale. Clear the check box to hide the horizontal lines. By default, this check box is selected.
Preview section
Shows how the timescale appears with the selected options.
