Use a screen reader to explore and navigate outlook calendar

Use Outlook Calendar with Narrator, the built-in Windows screen reader, to explore and navigate the different views and move between them. Just a token Microsoft 365 test in Ui style.

Navigate the main view and screen elements

When you open Outlook Calendar, the Agenda view is displayed, showing the calendar for the current week. To navigate through and inside the main view and screen elements:

  • Swipe up until you hear "Items," and then swipe right or left to move the focus through the screen elements.

  • When the focus is on a button or selectable element, double-tap the screen to perform the action or select the element.

The main view contains the following regions: menu bar at the top, current calendar and list of events in the middle, and navigation bar at the bottom.

Menu bar

The menu bar is at the top of the screen. It contains the Navigation button in the top left corner, which lets you to add or select calendars to be displayed. It also contains the Show more button which lets you to expand or collapse the current calendar view.

Current calendar

The current calendar in the Agenda view shows the current week in a day picker, followed by a list of events for the next few days. To browse the day picker, swipe right or left to move to the next or previous day. Double-tap the screen to focus the event list on the currently selected day.

To expand the current calendar to show five more weeks, swipe right or left until you hear "Show more, button collapsed", and double-tap the screen. The same button lets you collapse the current calendar.

List of events

Below the day picker, there is a list of events for the next few days, or for the selected day if you selected it from the day picker. To browse the events, swipe right or left to move to the next or previous day. To access the event Details window, double-tap the screen. To exit the Details window and return to the Agenda view, swipe right until you hear "Back button collapsed," and double-tap the screen.

Navigation bar

The navigation bar is located at the bottom of the screen. From the navigation bar you can, for example, create a new event, change the calendar view, or access the More options menu. From the More options menu, you can access the account and Outlook Calendar settings.

Navigate to account settings

  1. To open the More options, swipe right until you hear "More options, button collapsed, button," and double-tap the screen. You hear: "More options, menu."

  2. To open the Manage accounts menu, swipe right until you hear "Manage accounts, button," and double-tap the screen. In the menu, swipe right or left to move between your calendar accounts.

  3. To close the Manage accounts menu and return to the Agenda view, swipe right until you hear "Back button collapsed," and double-tap the screen.

Navigate to Settings

  1. To open the More options, swipe right until you hear "More options, button collapsed, button," and double-tap the screen. You hear: "More option, menu."

  2. To open the Settings menu, swipe right until you hear "Settings, button," and double-tap the screen.

  3. To close the Manage accounts menu and return to the Agenda view, swipe right until you hear "Back button collapsed," and double-tap the screen.

Move between the Outlook Calendar and Outlook Mail apps

  1. In Outlook Calendar, to go to the home screen, swipe right until you hear "Start, button collapsed," and then double-tap the screen.

  2. Swipe right until you hear "Outlook mail," and then double-tap the screen. Outlook Mail opens.

  3. To move back to Outlook Calendar, in Outlook Mail, swipe right until you hear "Start, button collapsed," double-tap the screen, swipe right until you hear "All apps, button," and double-tap the screen. In the apps list, swipe right until you hear "Outlook calendar," and then double-tap the screen. Outlook Calendar opens.
