Is Office already on my Windows 10 phone?

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook Mail and Calendar are pre-installed on all new Windows 10 devices and most devices are upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. You can find the apps on your Start screen or in the App list.

Tip: To save time once they're installed, pin the apps you use the most to Start. In the apps list, press and hold the app you want to pin, and tap Pin to Start.

Where is the Office Hub app that was on my Windows 8.1 device?

On Windows 10 Mobile phones, the Office Hub app has been replaced with individual mobile versions of the Office applications; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook Mail and Outlook Calendar. You can find them on your Start screen, in App list, or in the Microsoft Store.

Where are my documents that were saved using the old Office Hub app?

The Office Hub had a list of the most recent documents you worked with. With the Office Mobile apps, each app shares a common Most Recently Used list with your desktop Office apps. For example, if you open some document in Word on your desktop computer, when you open Word on your phone, you will see that same list. If you work on many different types of files from OneDrive, you may want to consider pinning the OneDrive app on your start screen for easy access to those documents.

Can I pin my documents to the Start screen with the Office apps on Windows 10 phone?

Yes. In the apps list, press and hold the app you want to pin, and tap Pin to Start.

What Office apps are available for Windows 10 phone?

Do Office apps for Windows 10 phone include all the same features as the desktop versions?

No. These apps are designed for your phone and have a smaller set of features than you find in the desktop versions of Office.

Where's the Save button?

There isn't one. Office automatically saves your files every few seconds as you work.

If you also want to save a copy, tap File > Save > Save a copy of your document.

Where are the commands and features?

The phone apps organize them into groups.

1. Open or create a file and tap Options [. . .] in the lower right corner. This opens the Home group.

2. Tap Home to see the full list of groups. In Excel, for example, you'll see Home, Insert, Formulas, Review, and View.

3. Tap the name of any group to get to the commands it contains.

4. Tap the arrows next to commands to find more features and options.

How do I delete an Office file with my phone?

Use your phone to go where the file is stored, and delete it from there.

If your file is stored online in OneDrive , you can use the OneDrive app on your phone to find and delete the file.

If you created and saved the file to your phone:

1. Open File Explorer to find the file.

2. Press and hold the file name to open a list of actions, and tap Delete.

Can I open and edit Office files on my computer after using them on my phone?

Yes. When you switch from your phone to your computer, you can keep working with your files. Edit them on your computer with Office 2016, Office 2013, Office 2010 (with a qualifying Office license), or in your web browser with Office Online.

There are two ways to get files from your phone to your computer:

• Save them to an online location, such as to OneDrive, Dropbox, or a SharePoint site. When you return to your computer, download the files you want to work on, or work on them online.

• Send email to yourself, attach the files you want to edit, and open that mail on your computer.

Tip: To send files quickly if you use OneDrive, tap Share > More options, and tap Send as attachment or Send a link.

Why can't I edit some Microsoft Office documents on my phone?

First, make sure you're signed in with a Microsoft account.

• You can create a Microsoft account for free. If you don't have one, you can still view and read Office files on your phone, but you can't edit them.

• You must log in with a Microsoft Account that is associated with a current copy of Office to get access to the "core Office experience" which includes creating and editing features on devices with screen sizes 10.1 inches or less. An Office 365 subscription is only required to create or edit on devices with screens that are larger that 10.1 inches, or to use advanced editing (premium) features.

Second, you might not be able to edit a Microsoft Office file on your phone, depending on what's in it or how it was last saved.

Can I use the Office apps for Windows 10 phone with an external display?

Yes. When you connect your device to an external display like a TV, monitor, or projector, you can use the Office Mobile apps to view documents on that display. If you have a qualifying Office 365 subscription, you can also edit documents while connected.

OneNote is free across all devices for non-commercial use.

What is Continuum?

Continuum is a feature that will be available on select Windows 10 mobile devices and will allow the connection to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse hence giving the user a PC-like experience.

Also note that Continuum for phones is only available on select Windows 10 premium phones and a Continuum-compatible accessory is required, along with an external monitor that supports HDMI input. Learn more about Continuum for phones.

Will an Office 365 subscription be required in order to use Continuum with Office documents?

Premium features – like editing a document via Continuum – will require an Office 365 subscription. Viewing documents in Continuum will be free.
