Call detail recording is a feature of archiving that records usage information about instant message conversations and meetings. Some organizations use the usage data obtained from call detail records to calculate their return on investment (ROI).

Before you administer call detail recording, you must first install an Archiving and CDR Server and all its prerequisites, as well as enable call detail recording according to the instructions in the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Archiving and CDR Server Deployment. Also ensure that you have enabled archiving.

For more information about administering Office Communications Server, see the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Administration Guide available on the Office Communications Server 2007 Technical Library.
