In This Article
Startup options
To automatically start up SharePoint Workspace whenever you start up your system, check Launch SharePoint Workspace when Windows starts up.
Launchbar startup options
You can set the Launchbar to automatically open when you start up SharePoint Workspace, and to always display on top of other application windows.
-
Click Launchbar under Application Settings.
-
Click Settings.
-
Check the options you want and click OK.
Workspace Explorer window options
You can set Workspace Explorer to automatically open a new window whenever you go to a different workspace.
-
Click Workspace Explorer under Application Settings.
-
Click Settings.
-
Select the option you want for opening new windows from the drop-down menu.
Virus scanning
You can enable a security option in your preferences so that all incoming and outgoing files are scanned to protect against viruses.
To enable this option, check Scan incoming and outgoing files for viruses
The virus scanning feature is supported if you are running Norton AntiVirus Personal Edition 2002 or higher. Other anti-virus software applications may also support this feature, but have not yet been tested.
Note: The virus scanning feature is not supported if you are running Norton AV Corporate Edition or Sophos Anti-Virus.
Showing your online presence
You can set preferences for showing your online presence to other users. The options you choose affect the status icons that display next to your name in any contact list. For example, you can "hide" your online presence and thus appear to be offline to other users.
-
To hide your online presence, uncheck Everyone, and then uncheck one or both of the other options.
-
Uncheck All users in My Contacts to make your contact appear offline only in contact lists.
-
Uncheck All workspaces members to make your contact appear offline only in workspace member lists.
-
Restricting messages from unknown contacts
You can select options for restricting the delivery of messages from other users. You might do this if you want to restrict the messages you receive to only known contacts, that is, contacts who are either in your contact list, verified by you or your administrator, or members of at least one of your workspaces. Enable this feature only if you are receiving a disruptive number of unwanted messages from unknown contacts.
To restrict messages, check Discard incoming messages from unknown contacts
Cautions related to this feature
Please note the following cautions related to this feature:
-
Messages from contacts who do not match any of the criteria described above will be discarded and cannot be recovered.
-
If you send a workspace invitation via e-mail to restricted people, they will be unable to receive the workspace because you will be unable to receive the "Acceptance Confirmation" message that is automatically sent on acceptance of email invitations.
This issue similarly applies to saved invitation files you make available, and that might be opened and accepted by restricted people.
-
If you use your account on more than one computer and you enable this feature, it is strongly recommended that you download all workspace content on all of your computers. This will ensure that all computers maintain the same lists of known and verified contacts.
Recommendations
Given the risks of data loss described in the previous section, use of this feature is intended only as a temporary measure for users who are deluged with unwanted messages from unknown contacts. The following course of action is recommended as a more permanent remedy: Create a new SharePoint Workspace account, migrate your existing workspaces to the new account by sending workspace invitations from the old account, and then delete the old account. If workspace permissions do not allow you to send invitations to certain workspaces, ask other members of these workspaces to send the invitations to the new account.
