Reverse engineer wizard choose a driver and data source

Select the data source that you want to reverse engineer, and also select an appropriate driver for connecting to that data source.

Installed Visio drivers

Open the list and select the appropriate Visio database driver for the data source you want to use.

Setup

Click to display the Setup dialog box, where you can associate the selected Visio driver with an ODBC data source and set other driver preferences.

Data Sources

If a data source has been defined on your system for the target database, then select it from the list of data sources.

If a data source has not been defined on your system for the target database, then click New to define a new data source.

Data source definitions reside on your system, but they can refer to databases on other systems.

New

Click to display the Create New Data Source dialog box.

About this wizard

Steps you through the process of creating a connection to the target database you want to reverse engineer.

To create a connection, you specify an installed Visio driver and the 32-bit ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) data source. For convenience, before you run the wizard, you should set the default Visio driver and target database to the target database you want to reverse engineer.

The schema definition information that the wizard can extract depends upon a combination of things, such as the capabilities of the DBMS (Database Management System) and ODBC driver. To the extent that it is available from the target DBMS, you can select the schema definition information that the Reverse Engineer Wizard will extract.
