Keyboard shortcut dictionary for Office programs

Keyboard shortcut dictionary for Office programs

If you're a power keyboard user, you want the comprehensive list of shortcuts. If you're developing a feature for Office, you'll want to know existing keyboard shortcuts and which key-combos are up for grabs.

We are collecting the full list of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint shortcuts in a spreadsheet you can sort, filter, and download. These include key combinations for the desktop applications as well as the browser-based Office Online apps.

Note: If you find mistake or omission in the list, please let us know at KeyboardShortcuts@Microsoft.com

The spreadsheet is color-coded to help developers see at a glance how existing key combinations are used:

  • Green - keyboard shortcuts you might want to duplicate in your app because of their common use.

  • Blue - ALT navigation currently in use.

  • Grey - not currently used: available as a new shortcut.

  • Yellow - browser shortcut used by web apps.

  • Light red - behavior most users expect, so it's not advised to overwrite them.

  • Dark red - reserved by the operating system and can't be overwritten.

Tip: To filter by color, download your own copy of the workbook and open it in Excel.
