Contacts from social media connections no longer sync with your microsoft account

Microsoft is consolidating several consumer services to deliver innovative features in future product releases. As a result, contact synchronization is no longer supported for third-party social media and external email networks connected to your Microsoft account. Third-party social media and external email networks affected by this change include LinkedIn, Twitter, Yahoo, Google, Facebook, and Sina Weibo.

You can add and maintain contacts that were created using a Microsoft account. These contacts may have been created through Outlook.com or Skype.

If you connected third-party social media or external email network accounts to a Microsoft account through the People web app, contact synchronization will stop. Third-party social media or external email network contacts will not be visible in contact lists on Outlook.com or OneDrive.

Contacts in your social media and email networks are not affected by this change. To maintain contacts in your social media or email networks, use the native apps for those services.

This article explains how these changes will impact your connected Microsoft apps and services.

Outlook.com contacts in the People web app

  • If you're a new user, you won't be able to connect contacts from third-party social media or external email networks to your Outlook.com account using the People web app.

  • If you've previously connected third-party social media or external email networks to your Outlook.com account, contacts from those services will no longer be visible in the People web app or in contact lists.

Skype contacts

  • If you're a new user, you won't be able to connect your contacts from third-party social media or external email networks to your Skype contact list.

  • If you've previously connected your social media or external email contacts to Skype, contacts already added from these services will continue to be visible in your Skype contact list.

  • You can continue to search for and add friends from the Skype directory.

Windows 8.1 People app

  • If you're a new user, you won't be able to connect third-party social media or external email networks to the Windows 8.1 People app.

  • Contact information and updates from third-party social media or external email networks will not display in the Windows 8.1 People app.

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Calendar app

  • The Calendar app on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 will no longer receive birthday or event information updates for third-party contacts.

Your account profile has moved

Your account profile at profile.live.com has been moved to https://account.microsoft.com/profile. Here, you'll find all information related to your Microsoft account. This includes your profile and contact information, privacy settings, security settings, and more. The information will be available from all Microsoft services connected to your Microsoft account.

How you connect to third-party social media has changed

You can no longer connect your Microsoft account to third-party social media such as Twitter and Facebook. Some Microsoft apps support connecting to social media, and you can connect directly from those apps. There is no centralized site where you can set up connections to social media for Microsoft services.
