Task Information dialog box, Notes tab

Use the Notes tab in the Task Information dialog box to enter or review notes for a selected task. You can:

  • Add new notes about a task.

  • Revise or add to existing notes.

  • Format the font and alignment of notes.

  • Insert objects into a note.

Dialog box location

In any task view, click the task and then click Task Information Button image . Click the Notes tab.

Details

General task information

Name     Shows the name of the selected task. You can enter another task name in the Name box to change it.

Duration     Specifies the amount of time needed to complete the selected task. You can enter duration in minutes, hours, days, weeks, or months. To enter an estimated duration, type a question mark after the duration unit, or select the Estimated check box.

Estimated     Specifies that the selected task has an estimated or tentative duration. Estimated durations are indicated by a question mark (?) after the time unit in a duration field.

Notes section

Notes box     Provides a workspace you can use to type a note to associate with the task. Information you enter in this box is stored in the Notes field for tasks. If you insert the Notes field into a task view, you can read up to the first 255 characters or to the first carriage return (ENTER) or inserted object.

Format buttons     Specifies formatting options for text selected in the Notes box.

Buttons

Format Font     Click Button image to select a font, font style, size, or color for the note text.

Align Left     Click Button image to align the selected text along the left margin.

Center     Click Button image to center the selected text.

Align Right     Click Button image to align the selected text along the right margin.

Bulleted List     Click button image to add bullets to or remove bullets from selected paragraphs.

Insert Object     Click Button image to insert an object such as a picture into the note.

Note: 

  • When you add a note to a task, the notes indicator Note indicator appears in the Indicators field. You can rest your mouse pointer over the notes indicator to read some or all of the note. You can double-click the notes indicator to open this Notes tab.

  • To include task notes when you print a task view such as the Gantt Chart view, on the File menu, click Page Setup, and then click the View tab. Select the Print notes check box.

  • To enter notes about the entire project rather than an individual task, on the File menu, click Properties, and then click the Summary tab. Type your note in the Comments box.

  • You can also add the project summary task and then add a note there. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the View tab. Select the Show project summary task check box, and then click OK. On the Notes tab of the Task Information dialog box for the project summary task, add your note.
