Copy text from pictures with OCR

Whenever you insert a picture in your notes, OneNote is able to read any text in such images by using a feature called Optical Character Recognition (OCR). This lets you copy text from your images and paste it into your notes for editing.

For example, if someone hands you their business card, you can take a picture of it with your cell phone, insert the picture in OneNote, and then copy the information from the business card image into your notes as text.

1. In your notes, right-click the picture that has the text you want to copy, and then click Copy Text from Picture.

2. Click where you want the copied text to appear, and then press Ctrl+V to paste it.

3. Check the pasted text for any errors and make any necessary corrections. If the quality of the inserted image or the legibility of its text isn't great, then the copied text might not be 100% perfect.

OneNote's ability to read text in pictures also comes in handy when searching your notes. Whenever you enter a keyword or phrase in a notebook search, OneNote will look for matching text in both your notes and in any pictures you've inserted.
