UML Stereotypes dialog box

On the UML menu, click Stereotypes, or right-click the system model in the tree view and click Stereotypes to create new stereotypes or to edit or delete existing stereotypes. The stereotypes you create here are included, where appropriate, in the Stereotype lists in the UML Properties dialog boxes associated with UML elements.

Stereotypes

Lists the available stereotypes for models.

To quickly edit the most commonly used settings for a stereotype, click a field in the Stereotypes list, and then select or type a value.

To access all of the settings for a stereotype, select the stereotype in the list, and then click Properties.

  • Stereotype  Double-click this field to edit an existing stereotype name. Click New to add a new stereotype.

  • Base Class  Choose the name of the UML model element to which the stereotype applies.

  • IsRoot  Select to indicate that the stereotype can't have ancestors.

  • IsLeaf  Select to indicate that the stereotype can't have descendants.

  • IsAbstract  Select to indicate that the stereotype is abstract and that no instances can be created for the class.

New

Click to add an undefined stereotype to the list of stereotypes.

To define the most commonly used settings for a stereotype, click a field in the Stereotypes list, and then select or type a value.

To access all of the settings for a stereotype, select the stereotype in the list, and then click Properties.

Properties

After you select a stereotype in the Stereotypes list, click to display four categories where you can edit the property values associated with the stereotype: Stereotype, Required Tagged Values, Constraints, and Tagged Values.

Duplicate

Click to add a new stereotype to the list with the same property values as the selected stereotype.

Delete

Click to delete the selected stereotype from the list of stereotypes.
