Applications
In the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 console tree, the Applications node contains all unified communications applications installed in the pool. In Office Communications Server 2007 R2, the following unified communications applications are automatically installed on each Front End Server in an Enterprise pool and on each Standard Edition server:
-
Response Group Service. Response Group Service enables end users to create and configure one or more response groups for the purpose of routing and queuing incoming phone calls to one or more designated agents.
-
Conferencing Attendant. Conferencing Attendant makes it possible for an enterprise user without access to a unified communications client to use a public switched telephone network (PSTN) phone to dial in to a conference.
-
Conferencing Announcement Service. Conferencing Announcement Service uses a tone to announce when a phone user joins or leaves a conference and when a phone user has been muted or unmuted.
-
Outside Voice Control. Outside Voice Control provides enterprise voice functionality and call control to mobile phones that are not otherwise enabled for enterprise voice.

Unified communications applications are hosted by an application server that is also automatically installed when you deploy Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Enterprise Edition Front End Server or Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Standard Edition. By default, all applications are activated during Office Communications Server 2007 R2 setup if you use the Deployment Wizard, but you can optionally activate only some or none of the applications. An application cannot be used until you activate the application, configure required settings, and then start the service. To run properly, Conferencing Attendant and Response Group Service require additional configuration. Conferencing Announcement Service and Outside Voice Control do not require any configuration.
Response Group Service uses its own administration snap-in. Conferencing Attendant settings are configured for the entire forest in Global Properties. Dial-in conferencing settings, however, are configured in Front End Properties at the pool level.
