Modify enterprise views, calendars, and other enterprise items
The enterprise global template is a collection of default settings, such as views, tables, macros, and custom fields that are used by all projects across the organization. These settings exist within a special project on Microsoft Office Project Server and are used in all of the organization's projects. The enterprise global template ensures that all projects within an organization adhere to standards, such as a common use of views, tables, and enterprise custom fields.
You can modify the settings used in the enterprise global template to provide new and updated project standards across your organization.
To edit the enterprise global template, you must check it out from Project Server.
Note: Only someone with the Save Enterprise Global privilege on the server can open and change items in the enterprise global template.
-
On the Tools menu, point to Enterprise Options, and then click Open Enterprise Global.
The enterprise global template is checked out and opens as a new (blank) project with the Gantt Chart view displayed.
Note: The name in the Project title bar is Checked-out Enterprise Global.
-
Make the changes in the template the same way you would in a regular project.
For example, you can add a new toolbar to the enterprise global template. On the View menu, click Toolbars, and then click Customize. In the Customize dialog box, add the new toolbar.
-
When you are finished making changes, on the File menu, click Close, and then check in the file.
Notes:
-
If you have made changes and have not yet saved them, you will be asked if you want to save them.
-
You cannot add resources and tasks to the enterprise global template. If you add them, they are not saved when the enterprise global template is checked back in.
-
To see the effects of the changes you've made to the enterprise global template, restart Project.
