Organizer dialog box

Organizer dialog box

Use the Organizer dialog box to move project elements such as views, reports, and toolbars between one local file and another, or between a local file and the global template file. You can also use the Organizer to rename or delete elements in a local file or the global template.

If you're using Microsoft Office Project Server 2007, you can use the Organizer to move project elements in and out of the enterprise global template file. For example, you can create a new table in an enterprise project or even in a local project. Using the Organizer, you can copy the table to other enterprise projects. If you have appropriate privileges, you can use the Organizer to copy the table to the enterprise global template file, and then make that table available in all enterprise projects.

Use the Organizer dialog box to copy, rename, or delete any of the following 11 elements, which are listed on their own tabs:

  • Views

  • Reports

  • Modules

  • Forms

  • Tables

  • Filters

  • Calendars

  • Toolbars

  • Maps

  • Fields

  • Groups

Elements in the global file

Global    This box lists the available items pertaining to the currently selected element. For example, on the View tab, this list shows all the views available in the global project file. This is the list of all views available in any new project that's created. If the Filters tab is selected, this list shows all filters stored in the global file and therefore available to all newly created projects. The same is true for all other elements: reports, modules, custom forms, tables, calendars, toolbars, import/export maps, custom fields, and groups. Select an item to copy it to a local project, rename it globally, or delete it from the global file. If you're working with an enterprise project, the box is labeled Global (+non-cached Enterprise). If you're working with a local project, the box is labeled Global.MPT.

Available in    Select global.mpt, Global (+non-cached Enterprise), or the name of any open project. The item selected dictates what is shown in the box above it. You can copy items from another project (or the global file), and rename or delete items. By default, the global file is selected.

Elements in current project

Current file    This box lists the available items pertaining to the currently selected element. For example, on the Reports tab, this list shows the custom reports created in the current project file. On the Groups tab, this list shows any custom groups that have been created in this project. The same is true for any other custom elements created in this file: views, filters, modules, forms, tables, calendars, toolbars, maps, and fields. Select an item in this list to copy it to the global.mpt so it can be made available to any new projects that will be created in the future. You can also rename or delete the item.

Available in    Select the name of an open project, Global (+non-cached Enterprise), or the global.mpt file. The item selected dictates what is shown in the box above it. You can copy items from another project (or the global file) and rename or delete items. By default, the current project is selected.

Command buttons

Copy    Duplicates the item selected in one box into the other box. You can copy from the left to the right box, or from the right to the left box. This can be used to copy a custom item you've created to the global file so that it's available to all new projects. This can also be used to copy a custom item from one project file to another.

Rename    Changes the name of the selected item. An ampersand (&) in front of a letter in the name indicates the keyboard accelerator that can be used for the item if it's displayed on a menu. For example, if a view name is listed as Task &Usage, this indicates that the "U" is the keyboard accelerator for the Task Usage menu command.

Delete     Removes the selected item from the project or the global file.
