Bar Styles (for Resource Graph) dialog box
Use the Bar Styles dialog box for Resource Graphs to customize how resource information on the Resource Graph view should appear. Options for the dialog box change depending on whether the Resource Graph is a single view or the lower pane in a combination view under a task view or other resource view. You can:
-
Change the way the information is to be graphically displayed, for example, as a bar (the default), area, step, or line.
-
Show or hide resource graph representations for selected, filtered, or all resources or tasks.
-
Change the color and pattern for graph elements such as bars or lines representing field information or data represented over time, for example, regular allocations in blue and overallocations in red.
Dialog box location
With the Resource Graph view displayed, click Bar Styles on the Format menu. You can also open this dialog box by double-clicking in the graph area of the view.
Details
The Resource Graph view settings controlled by the Bar Styles dialog box adapt to the current view configuration, as follows:
-
If you've displayed the Resource Graph as a single view by itself, the left side of the dialog box is named Filtered resources and the right side is named Resource. The left side shows graph view settings for the group of filtered resources. By default, no filter is applied, so information for all resources can be represented in the graph. The right side shows graph view settings for the currently selected resource.
-
If the Resource Graph is the lower pane of a combination view, and a task view is in the upper pane, the left side is named All tasks and the right side is named Selected tasks. The left side shows graph view settings for all assignments for the resources assigned to the currently selected task(s). The right side shows graph view settings for just the assignments on the currently selected task(s).
-
If the Resource Graph is the lower pane of a combination view, and a resource view is in the upper pane, the left side is named All resources and the right side is named Selected resources. The left side shows graph view settings for all assignments for the resources selected in the upper resource view pane. The right side shows graph view settings for the current resource.
Left section
Use the settings on the left side of the dialog box to set options for displaying information related to a full group of tasks or resources.
The contents of the left section change depending on what's chosen on the Format menu, Details submenu. For example, if Peak Units (the default) is selected on the Format-Details submenu, the left section includes options for Overallocated resources, Allocated resources, and Proposed Bookings. On the other hand, if Cumulative Costs is selected on the Format-Details submenu, this section includes options for Total costs and New costs.
For each applicable category to be represented on the graph, three formatting options are available.
Formatting options
Show as Specifies the type of graph, for example, a bar or line graph, that you want to represent this category for the group of resources. If you don't want to display a graph for this information, click Don't Show. By default, no information is shown for filtered (multiple) resources.
Color Specifies the graph color you want to represent this category for the group of resources.
Pattern Specifies the pattern you want to represent this category for the group of resources. If you clicked Bar, Area, or Step in the Show as box, the list shows area patterns; if you clicked Line or Step Line, the list shows line patterns.
Right section
The right section sets options for displaying Resource Graph information for the currently selected individual resource or task.
The contents of this section change depending on what's chosen on the Format menu, Details submenu. For example, if Peak Units (the default) is selected on the Format-Details submenu, the Resource section includes options for Overallocated resources, Allocated resources, and Proposed Bookings. However, if Work Availability is selected on the Format-Details submenu, for example, the Resource section includes formatting options only for Work Availability.
For each applicable category to be represented on the graph, three formatting options are available.

Check boxes
Show values Select this check box to show the numerical values at the bottom of the graph. Clear the check box to hide numerical values. By default, this check box is selected.
Show availability line Select this check box to include a solid line on the Resource Graph view showing the availability of the individual resource for the dates shown on the graph. Clear the check box to hide the availability line. By default, this check box is selected.
Bar overlap box
This box specifies the percentage for two bars within the same time period to overlap. This value must be a number between 1 and 100.
Note:
-
To change the type of information displayed in the graph, choose the information you want from the Details submenu on the Format menu.
-
You can turn off any of the available graphs by clicking Don't Show in the Show as box for that graph.
-
If you're using the Resource Graph view as part of a combination view, you can display graphs for an individual resource, a group of selected resources, or both. Displaying graphs for both allows you to compare information such as underallocations or overallocations between the single resource and the resource group.
