Use Publisher to print a newsletter on 11x17 paper

Use Publisher to print a newsletter on 11x17 paper

There's more to printing a fold-down-the-middle, tabloid-size newspaper or booklet than simply printing on 11 x 17 inch paper. The trick is to use print settings that lay out your 8.5 x 11 inch pages on each half of an 11 x 17 inch sheet of paper. Folding the paper in half gives you your newspaper. You can use this technique with any publication where the page size is half that of the paper size.

Set up the newsletter

  1. Click File > Print.

  2. In the Printer list, select the printer you want to use.

  3. Set the following:

    • Booklet, side fold

    • Tabloid (11 x 7")

    • Landscape

    • Print on Both Sides – Flip sheets on short edge

Print a booklet or newsletter with 11 x 17 inch (tabloid) paper.

Note:  If Booklet, side-fold is not an available option, the selected paper size may be too small for the pages. Make sure that the paper size is twice the page size.

  4. Under Preview, you can see how two of the pages will appear when they are printed on one tabloid sheet.

Print preview of a tabloid (11 x 17 inch) newsletter publication.

  5. If you're happy with the layout, click Print.

Notes: Publisher prints the first and last pages on one side of the sheet of paper, the second and next-to-last pages on the other side of the sheet, and so on, as shown.

    print order

If your computer doesn't support two-sided printing, Publisher will print the first and last pages on one sheet of paper, the second and next-to-last on another sheet, and so on. When you photocopy the pages back to back they will be in the right order.

  1. Hold the paper in place and align the top arm over the spine. Hold the booklet in place with your hands or by placing a heavy object on top of each side.Align the stapler arm so the head of the stapler is oriented in the middle of the booklet, where you'd like the first staple to be.
