Note: This article applies only to the previous OneDrive for work or schoolsync app (groove.exe). In most cases, we recommend that you use the newer OneDrive sync app (onedrive.exe) instead. Which OneDrive app?
Problem
When you click the OneDrive tile in the Microsoft 365 app launcher, or you type the OneDrive URL directly into the browser, you receive the following error message:
This item might not exist or is no longer available
This item might have been deleted, expired, or you might not have permission to view it. Contact the owner of this item for more information.
Solution
To resolve this problem, you must revert the default OneDrive for work or school Documents folder to the original name of "Documents" by using File Explorer. For more information about how to connect to the site collection by using File Explorer, see How to configure and to troubleshoot mapped network drives that connect to Microsoft SharePoint sites in Microsoft 365.
NOTE: When you rename the Documents folder, the list view threshold of 5,000 items is enabled. For more information, see "The number of items in this list exceeds the list view threshold, which is 5000 items" error when you view a SharePoint list in Microsoft 365 Enterprise.
If the library contains more than 5,000 items, you cannot rename the folder to "Documents" until there are fewer than 5,000 files in the folder.
Be aware that the limit for synchronizing files by using the OneDrive sync client is 20,000 items. For more information, see Restrictions and limitations when you sync SharePoint libraries to your computer through OneDrive.
More information
This problem occurs after the OneDrive for work or school Documents folder for the default library is renamed by using File Explorer. The navigational pointers for OneDrive reference the root folder, Documents. Therefore, renaming the Documents folder changes the navigation redirects to the OneDrive site.
