On the Insert menu, click Header and Footer.

In the Header or Footer sections, click in the Left, Center, or Right sections, depending on where you want the date or time to appear.

From the Header & Footer Ribbon menu, click Insert Date or Insert Time. You can also insert the Page Number, Number of Pages, File Path, File Name and Sheet Name.

If you want, do one or more of the following:
To start a new line, press ENTER .
To delete a date or time from a header or footer, select &[Date] or &[Time], and then press DELETE .

Click OK. The Page Setup dialog box shows a preview of your header or footer.

This feature is not available in Excel for the web.
If you have the Excel desktop application, you can use the Open in Excel button to open the workbook and insert the date in a header.
