Global properties edge servers

Use the Edge Servers tab to specify which Edge Servers are trusted by internal servers running Office Communications Server 2007 R2 to forward traffic outside your organization's firewall.

Note: These settings are automatically configured for you when you run the Configure Server or Pool wizard and configure your Enterprise pool or Standard Edition server for external user access, but you can use this tab to add or remove a trusted Edge Server.

Access Edge and Web Conferencing Edge Servers

This list includes the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of each Access Edge Server and Web Conferencing Edge Server that your internal servers running Office Communications Server 2007 R2 trust to route Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) traffic, meeting content, and audio/video streams between internal and external users.

Add

Click to add an Edge Server to the list of trusted Access Edge Servers and Web Conferencing Edge Servers.

Remove

Click a server in the list, and then click Remove to remove the selected Edge Server from the list of trusted Access Edge Servers and Web Conferencing Edge Servers.

A/V Edge Servers

This list includes the FQDNs and user authentication SIP ports of each Audio/Video (A/V) Edge Server that your internal servers running Office Communications Server 2007 R2 trust for A/V conferencing between internal and external users.

Add

Click to add an Edge Server to the list of trusted A/V Edge Servers.

Remove

Click a server in the list, and then click Remove to remove the selected Edge Server from the list of trusted A/V Edge Servers.

Edge Servers provide a way for internal and external users to communicate across corporate firewalls. Use this tab to list the Edge Servers to which your internal servers running Office Communications Server 2007 R2 can forward outbound traffic.

Edge Servers include Access Edge Servers, Web Conferencing Servers, and A/V Conferencing Servers:

• The Access Edge Server handles SIP traffic between internal and external users.

• The Web Conferencing Edge Server handles the exchange of meeting content between internal and external users.

• The A/V Edge Server enables A/V conferencing between internal and external users.

These Edge Servers can be collocated on a single computer or deployed on multiple computers. The recommended configuration for most deployments is to collocate the Access Edge Server and Web Conferencing Server on one computer (or multiple load-balanced computers) and, for reasons of bandwidth, the A/V Edge Server by itself on a separate computer (or multiple load-balanced computers). Additionally, if your deployment includes remote sites, the remote site can include Web Conferencing Edge Servers, as well as A/V Edge Servers.
