By default, LyncMicrosoft Store app signs in automatically when it detects a network connection, and syncs with the Lync server or service and Exchange server at regular intervals. However, this increases network traffic, your data usage, and consequently what it costs you if you're outside your local network.
To control your costs when roaming, it is best to turn on the option to avoid metered connections so that Lync does not sign in automatically when it detects them. A metered connection is a 3G or 4G network connection on which your data usage is one of the following:
-
Greater than 80%
-
Less than 80% but the data usage incurs roaming charges
To avoid metered connections:
-
In the LyncMicrosoft Store app, do one of the following:
-
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and tap Settings.
-
If using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and click Settings.
-
-
Select Options, and, under Avoid metered connections that might charge extra, select On.
