Buy a subscription to Office 365 for home from your free trial

Buy a subscription to Office 365 for home from your free trial

Tip: Business admins, see Buy a subscription to Office 365 for business from your free trial.

If you have a free 30-day trial of Office 365 Home or Office 365 Personal and decide that you like Office 365, you can buy the subscription you're trying without losing any data.

If automatic renewal is already turned on, then you don't have to do anything to buy Office 365 after trying it. Your payment method will be automatically charged after your trial ends, unless you cancel the trial by turning off automatic renewal.

If automatic renewal is turned off, you'll need to either turn it on, or redeem a one-time prepaid product key from a retail store.

Note: If your Office 365 trial came pre-installed on a device, automatic renewal is turned off, by default.

Verify whether automatic renewal is turned on

If automatic renewal is turned on, then you don't need to do anything further because the payment method, such as a credit card or PayPal, that you provided when you signed up for your trial will be automatically charged for the renewal after the trial period is over.

  1. Go to the Services & subscriptions page.

  2. If prompted, sign in with the Microsoft account email and password associated with your Office 365 subscription.

  3. On the Services & subscriptions page, find the subscription you want to renew.

    • If you see a renewal date, or a notice of an upcoming charge next to the subscription, that means automatic renewal is already set up, and your subscription will renew on the date shown.

    • If you see an expiration date, or a Renew link, that means automatic renewal is turned off, and you need to either turn it on, or use a prepaid product key.

How do you want to buy Office 365?

When you're ready to buy Office 365 Home or Personal, you can do so by turning on automatic renewal or by purchasing a product key from a retail store.

We recommend turning on automatic renewal because it's easier, and you won't have to worry about your subscription expiring. However, if you don't want to be automatically charged on a recurring basis for Office 365, you can buy a one-time product key from a retail store and apply it to your trial.
