Remove or delete a database in Business Contact Manager

Remove or delete a database in Business Contact Manager

When you use Business Contact Manager for Outlook, your business data is stored in a Business Contact Manager database that you associate with your Outlook profile. You must connect to at least one database, but you may have others available to you. If you disconnect from a database that is associated with your profile, you can either reconnect to the database, or you can connect to it using another profile. However, if you delete the database, the database cannot be restored.

Important:  If you remove the only database associated with your profile, you can no longer use Business Contact Manager for Outlook.

Remove a data file from your profile without deleting the Business Contact Manager database

  1. Open Outlook using a profile that is associated with a Business Contact Manager database.

  2. Click the File tab.

  3. On the Info tab, click the Account Settings button, and then click Account Settings.

  4. In the Account Settings dialog box, click the Data Files tab.

  5. In the list, select the database you want to remove from this profile, and then click Remove.

Delete a database

  1. Click the File tab.

  2. Click the Business Contact Manager tab, and then click the Manage Databases button.

  3. Click Delete Databases.

  4. In the Delete Databases dialog box, click the name of the database that you want to delete, and then click the Delete Database button.

    Notes:

    • If there is only one database in the list, the Delete Database button may be unavailable.

    • If you are not the database owner, the Delete Database button will also be unavailable. Only the database owner can delete a database.

  5. In the Delete dialog box, if you are sure you want to permanently delete the database, click Yes.

  6. In the Delete Databases dialog box, click Close.

Note:  Even if you delete shared databases, the changes you made to your firewall and the Microsoft SQL Server network protocols when you chose to share your databases will still be in effect. To restore your firewall and Microsoft SQL Server network protocols to their previous settings, you must first stop sharing each database, and then remove the databases. For information about how to stop sharing your database see the Stop sharing your database section in Share your Business Contact Manager data with other users.
