Create a reporting view

Microsoft Project Server 2010 provides a rich custom reporting environment to support your business intelligence needs. Several default reporting views and templates are included when Project Server 2010 is installed, and site administrators can use those templates as a basis for creating reporting views that meet the unique needs of your organization.

What default reporting views are available?

Project Server 2010 includes a set of default reporting views that you can use to analyze your project data. The following table describes the default views.

Report Name

Description

Capacity Report

This report provides the resource manager with a graphical view of assigned work and remaining capacity by month for a set of resources.

Issues and Risks

This report provides a summary of issues and risks.

Exit Status of Resources by Program

This report enables the project manager to easily determine which resources are due to exit a set of projects and to determine how much remaining work is assigned to those resources.

Milestones Due This Month

This report provides a list of milestones that are due this month for a set of projects.

Timesheet Actuals

This report enables the timesheet manager to see what was submitted via timesheets.

Timesheet Audit

This report enables the timesheet manager to audit where entries are in the timesheet process.

Workflow Chart Data

This report provides a snapshot of how many projects are in the pipeline by stage and phase.

Top Projects Data

This report provides a list of the top projects in the portfolio that consume company resources, such as cost or employees.

Workflow Drilldown Data

This report offers an in-depth analysis of projects by providing dates when projects enter each stage, project owners, and project health status.

Rejected Projects List

This report contains a list of projects that were rejected or canceled during the workflow.

Simple Projects List

This report lists all projects that are currently in the pipeline (proposed, continued, rejected, and canceled).

Incomplete Projects Data

This report provides a list of all projects that are stuck in the proposal stage because of incomplete information.

Display a default reporting view

You can use the BI Center in Project Web App to view the default reporting views.

  1. On the Quick Launch, click BI Center.

  2. On the BI Center Quick Launch, click Views.

  3. Click the Views folder to view the list of default reporting views.

  4. Click a view name to display that view in Excel or Visio.

Create a custom reporting view using a template

Project Server 2010 comes with several view templates that site administrators can use to build reporting views to meet your organization's needs. The templates provide the connection between Excel and the Project Server database using Office Data Connections and Excel Services.

  1. On the Quick Launch, click BI Center.

  2. On the BI Center Quick Launch, click Views.

  3. Click the Views folder to view the list of default reporting views and templates.

  4. Click a template name to create a custom reporting view using that template.

  5. Create PivotCharts and PivotTables to display the data in a way that meets your organization's needs.
