Add lorem ipsum or placeholder text in an email message

Add lorem ipsum or placeholder text in an email message

There are two types of placeholder text that can be quickly created within Microsoft Outlook 2010 and Microsoft Outlook Office 2007 email messages. Placeholder text is used as a substitute for content that will be added later or to test text layout and formatting.

In a message that you are composing, within the message body at the beginning of line, type one of the following:

  • =lorem()

  • =rand()

When Enter is pressed, the placeholder text appears.

lorem

rand

By default, three paragraphs each with three sentence of lorem ipsum are created. Lorem ipsum is based on a section of Latin text by Cicero. However, the words and sentence structure is altered so that the text has no real meaning.

By default, three paragraphs each with three sentences of text that describes document formatting with the ribbon are created.

Example

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Maecenas porttitor congue massa. Fusce posuere, magna sed pulvinar ultricies, purus lectus malesuada libero, sit amet commodo magna eros quis urna.

Example

On the Insert tab, the galleries include items that are designed to coordinate with the overall look of your document. You can use these galleries to insert tables, headers, footers, lists, cover pages, and other document building blocks. When you create pictures, charts, or diagrams, they also coordinate with your current document look.

Tip:  These commands are also available in Microsoft Word 2010 and Microsoft Office Word 2007 documents.

Customize how much text is created

Within the parentheses, enter two numbers separated by a comma. The first number specifies the number of paragraphs and the second number specifies the number of sentences within each paragraph.

For example, for six paragraphs consisting of five sentences each of lorem ipsum, use =lorem(6,5) at the beginning of a line.
