Set alerts options - Communicator

Set alerts options - Communicator

Use the Alerts tab to set options that control how and when Communicator alerts appear on your computer screen. For example, you may want to receive an alert when another contact adds you to his or her Contact List. You may also want to control the alerts that appear when your status is set to Do Not Disturb, or configure and control the sounds that accompany alerts.

General alerts

  • Notify me when someone adds me to his or her contact list

Select this option if you want to see a dialog box each time a contact adds you to his or her Contact List. This dialog box lets you add the contact to your Contact List and to set the level of access the contact has to your presence information.

  • Display subject or message in the conversation alerts

Select this check box if you want the incoming IM or call alert to include the conversation subject or text of the sender's instant message. Clear it if you want the alert to display only the sender's name.

When my status is Do Not Disturb

  • Do not display alerts

Select this option if you do not want to receive alerts when your presence status is set to Do Not Disturb. When this option is set and your status is set to Do Not Disturb, you will not receive any alerts, even from contacts whom you have assigned to the Team access level. By default, your status is set to Do Not Disturb whenever you are running a full-screen program.

  • Display only conversation alerts from people in my Team access level

Select this option if you want to receive alerts (while in Do Not Disturb mode) from only those contacts to whom you have granted the Team access level. For more information about assigning contacts to access levels, see the Presence FAQ - Communicator.

  • Display all status alerts, all notifications, and only conversation alerts from people in my Team access level

Select this option if you want to receive conversation alerts (while in Do Not Disturb mode) from only those contacts to whom you have granted the Team access level. Also, with this option selected, you will receive other alerts, such as when someone adds you to his or her Contact List, and notifications such as when you have missed a call.

  • Configure sounds

Click this option to open the Windows Sound and Audio Devices dialog box.

    • Suspend instant messaging sounds when the Conversation window is in the foreground

Select this option if you do not want to hear instant messaging alert sounds when the Conversation window is active.

    • Suspend sounds when my status is Busy

Select this check box if you do not want to be interrupted by alert sounds when your presence status is set to Busy. This is very useful when you do not want sounds to interfere with calls.

    • Suspend sounds when my status is Do Not Disturb

Select this check box if you do not want to be interrupted by alert sounds when your presence status is set to Do Not Disturb.

New messages in an existing conversation

These options only take place if the Conversation window is not the active window on your desktop. If the Conversation window is the active window then you will not receive an alert, you will just see the new message in the Conversation window.

  • Notify me by flashing the conversation window button on the taskbar

Click this option to flash the Conversation Window button on the Windows taskbar whenever a new message is added to an existing conversation.

  • Notify me with a pop-up window (Internet Explorer 6.0 and later)

Click this option to display a pop-up message whenever a new message is added to an existing conversation.
