Forwarding Calls (Enterprise Voice)

Forwarding Calls (Enterprise Voice)

Note:  Call forwarding and voice mail features are available only if your organization is configured to support them. If you are not sure about which Office Communicator 2007 features are enabled, contact your system administrator.

You can use the call-forwarding features in Office Communicator to forward calls to voice mail, to another number, or to another contact. Call forwarding features are especially useful if you are traveling or working from home, as calls can be forwarded to your current location. If you are out of the office, calls can be automatically forwarded to a co-worker, so important calls are not lost.

When you set call handling options to forward calls, all incoming calls are automatically forwarded to the destination you choose. Incoming calls do not ring or display a call alert on your computer.

What do you want to do?

Forward calls to Voice Mail

  • In the Office Communicator main window, click the Call-Forwarding button, point to Forward Calls To, and then click Voice Mail.

Voice mail items appear in two places in Office Outlook: in your Inbox, and in Search Folders, under Voice Mail.

Forward calls to an existing number

  • In the Office Communicator main window, click the Call-Forwarding button, point to Forward Calls To, and then select a number.

Numbers that appear in the Forward Calls To menu are based on phone numbers that you configure in the Phones tabs in the Communicator Options dialog box.

Forward calls to a new number

  1. In the Office Communicator main window, click the Call-Forwarding button, point to Forward Calls To, and then click New Number.

  2. In the Phone number box, enter a phone number for call forwarding.

Forward calls to a contact

  1. In the Office Communicator main window, click the Call-Forwarding button, point to Forward Calls To, and then click Contact.

  2. In the Select a Contact dialog box, double-click a contact from the Contact List or enter the person's name or e-mail address in the Search box, and then double-click the contact in the Search Results pane.

  3. Click OK.

Important:  Forward calls to and Ring an additional number are mutually exclusive options. If you set up Communicator to forward calls, previously set Simultaneously Ring Additional Number settings no longer apply. If you set up Communicator to simultaneously ring an additional number, any existing Forward calls to settings no longer apply.

Note:  If you forward a call to a contact who is running Office Communicator 2005, the contact who is receiving the forwarded call will see your contact name in the call roster, rather than the name of the caller.
