Baseline1-10 Budget Cost fields
The baseline budget cost fields (Baseline1 Budget Cost through Baseline10 Budget Cost) store the originally planned budget cost amounts for cost resources that are specifically identified as budget resources. The Baseline1 Budget Cost field stores budget cost for tasks, resources, or assignments saved with Baseline 1. Similarly, the Baseline2 Budget Cost through Baseline10 Budget Cost fields store planned budget cost for Baselines 2 through Baseline 10.
Budget resources are assigned only to the project summary task. Budget cost can be entered or reviewed at the project summary task's assignment level, or rolled up to the project summary task level. The Baseline1-10 Budget Cost fields show the total planned person-hours scheduled for a task, resource, or assignment. The timephased versions of these fields show these same person-hours distributed over time.
There are several categories of Baseline1-10 Budget Cost fields.
Baseline1-10 Budget Cost (task fields)
Data Type Currency
Entry Type Calculated or entered
How Calculated When you assign a cost resource that is a budget resource to a project summary task, and then enter cost for the assignment in either the Task Usage or Resource Usage view, Microsoft Office Project 2007 rolls up the total amount to the project summary task.
The Baseline1-10 Budget Cost fields contain $0.00 until you set a baseline for the project. As soon as you save a baseline, the total budget cost is copied into the corresponding baseline budget cost field for the task. The baseline budget cost field that is used (for example, Baseline3 Budget Cost) depends on which baseline was saved (for example, Baseline 3).
Best Uses In a task sheet, show the project summary task and add one of the Baseline1-10 Budget Cost fields and the Budget Cost field to compare the baseline budget cost against the currently scheduled budget cost. You might also want to compare the budget cost of one baseline against another. Reviewing the variances, you can see how the budget costs are changing throughout the life of the project.
Example At the start of your project two months ago, you saved a project baseline. A month ago, the scope of your project changed, and you saved a second baseline with Baseline 1. Since then, you've made further adjustments and have saved a third baseline with Baseline 2. Now you want to compare the Baseline2 Budget Cost field with the current Budget Cost field. In the Task Sheet, you show the project summary task, and then add both the Baseline2 Budget Cost field and the Budget Cost field.
Remarks The Baseline1-10 Budget Cost fields show information for cost resources, but not for work resources or material resources. To see overall baseline budget work information for work or material resources that have been assigned to the project summary task, add the appropriate Baseline1-10 Budget Work field to a task sheet.
To show the project summary task, on the Tools menu, click Options. On the View tab, select the Show project summary task check box.
To save a baseline plan, on the Tools menu, point to Tracking, and then click Set Baseline. Select the baseline you want—Baseline or Baseline 1 through Baseline 10. This copies the current value of the Budget Cost field into the corresponding Baseline Budget Cost field.
After you save a baseline, you can still edit baseline budget cost. However, edited baseline values do not cause any recalculation of baseline budget cost fields. The purpose of saving a baseline is to capture a "snapshot" of the project plan at a moment in time. Editing baseline values can change the integrity of your information and result in misleading conclusions from variance analyses.
Baseline1-10 Budget Cost (resource fields)
