Add a header or footer

Add a header or footer

A header or footer is a single line of text that prints near the top or bottom of every page. Headers and footers don't appear when you view your diagram on the screen, but they do appear when you print. In a header or footer, you can insert fields for automatic page numbering, file name, current date and time, and other information.

  1. On the View menu, click Header and Footer.

  2. In the Header and Footer dialog box, under both Header and Footer, click the arrows to the right of the Left, Center, and Right boxes to choose the information that you want to show in each area of the header or footer. Or, type the text you want to show in that area of the header or footer.

  3. For Margin, type a value to specify how far the header or footer prints from the top or bottom of the page.

  4. To change the header or footer font, size, and other font effects, click Choose Font.

  5. Click OK.

The header and footer appear when you print your drawing.

Tip: Instead of adding a header or footer, consider adding a background. A background can show everything a header or footer can, but a background is much more flexible. For example, you can have a different background for every page, and backgrounds can contain multiple lines of text and shapes, such as a company logo, a border, or title blocks with file paths, last revision dates, and other information.
