Call forward and simultaneous ring

You can set up call forwarding and simultaneous ring so your calls don't get missed. You forward incoming calls by setting up forwarding rules. Call forwarding options are available only if your organization is configured to support them. If you're not sure about which Microsoft Lync 2010 features are enabled, contact your organization's support team.

If call forwarding options are enabled, you can use the call-forwarding features of Lync 2010 to forward calls to another number or to another contact. Call forwarding features are especially useful if you're traveling or working from home, because calls can be forwarded to your current location. If you're out of the office, calls can be automatically forwarded to a co-worker, so important calls are not lost.

Important:  When you update your mobile phone number, in the My Mobile Number setting, you'll also need to update your Simultaneously Ring or Call Forwarding options.

Note:  Although you can set your call forwarding options on the iPad, incoming and outgoing calls are received on your mobile phone. When you make or receive a Lync call from the iPad, the call goes to the mobile phone number you specified in the My Mobile Number field.

What do you want to do?

Forward call to voice mail or another number

The Call Forwarding option is typically used to forward calls to voice mail or to a number other than your mobile number. When you set call forwarding settings in Lync, all incoming calls are automatically forwarded to the destination you choose.

To set call forwarding, do the following:

  1. Tap My Info, and then tap Simultaneously Ring or Call Forwarding.

  2. On the Call Forwarding screen, tap Forward Calls, and then select one of the following:

    • Tap Voice mail to have the call go to your voice mail where you can retrieve it later.

    • Tap Custom to select a number you've added before, such as your mobile phone.

    • Click New Number and type in a new phone number.

    • Tap New Contact, and then search a contact in the dialog box that is displayed.

    • Tap My Delegates to have the calls sent to your delegates.

Stop call forwarding

To stop call forwarding, do the following:

  1. At the bottom of the screen, tap My Info, and then tap the arrow next to Simultaneously Ring or Call Forwarding.

  2. On the Call Forwarding screen, tap Do not Forward.

Set up simultaneous ring

Unlike call forwarding where your work phone doesn't ring, you can set your incoming calls to simultaneously ring your phone and another number or contact in case you're busy or momentarily unavailable. This setting can help ensure that callers don't get the busy signal and their calls don't get missed. At the same time, they won't know that their call was forwarded.

Note:  If your Call Forwarding option isn't set to simultaneous ring on your mobile phone, you won't receive incoming Lync calls on your mobile phone.

  1. Tap My Info, and then tap the arrow next to Simultaneously Ring or Call Forwarding.

  2. On the Call Forwarding screen, tap Simultaneously Ring, and then select one the following:

  • Tap Custom to select a number you've added before, such as your mobile phone.

  • Click New Number and type in a new phone number.

  • Tap My Delegates or Team-Call Group to have the calls sent to your delegates or team-call group.
