In the world of education, SharePoint is used internationally to create a platform where teachers, students, and parents can share information. Also, school administrators can streamline a lot of what they need to do on a regular basis. There are some great examples out there that showcase how SharePoint provides solutions for all user audiences. A few examples include: Twynham School, UK.
This article showcases two sets of interviews with people who were responsible for implementing a solution using SharePoint on their school portal site. Using mostly out-of-the-box features, both solutions improved not only the user or customer experience but also the experience of those administering ongoing tasks that are part of their jobs.
Each video highlights a different experience but with a similar end-result: providing a rich user experience that helps different user audiences collaborate with one another while expediting tasks that otherwise would take longer or be more prone to error.
Lake Washington School District: Streamlining community flyer submittals
In this video, several people from the Lake Washington School District (LWSD) talk about the implementation and use of a solution using SharePoint. The solution enables community groups to submit flyers to the district for approval. Once approved, they are automatically routed to the appropriate SharePoint school websites and the main district portal available to all students and parents in the district.
LWSD has created a very useful collection of websites using SharePoint that allows teachers, students, parents and administrators to share and access the information they need. To learn more about how the LWSD uses SharePoint go directly to their main portal website: Lake Washington School District.
University of Washington - Foster School of Business: Providing faculty information to a wide user audience
This video describes a SharePoint-based solution that enables people to browse through and view profiles of faculty members who teach at the Foster School of Business. The solution also was designed to allow faculty member to modify their profiles to incorporate new accomplishments or specialties or update their photograph.
The solution was developed as a collaborative effort between the Online Marketing Director, UW IT staff, and a solution provider consultant. By working together, building on an existing SharePoint platform, they were able to create a flexible yet consistent display of faculty profiles.
