Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 uses the same file format as Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 and Microsoft Publisher 2002. Therefore, there are no separate options for these versions in the Save as type list.

Important: When you save an Office Publisher 2007 file in Publisher 2003 or Publisher 2002, certain features are not supported. For more information, see the Office Publisher 2007 features that are not supported in Publisher 2003 or Publisher 2002 section.

  1. On the File menu, click Save As.

    If necessary, switch to the drive and the folder where you want to save the publication.

  2. In the Save as type list, select Publisher Files.

  3. Click Save.

You can open an Office Publisher 2007 file in Publisher 2003 or Publisher 2002, but certain features are not supported. If you reopen the same file in Office Publisher 2007, the features that were not supported in earlier versions of Publisher will be available again.

Baseline guides

Partially supported. Publisher 2003 supports baseline guides. In Publisher 2002, baseline guides are not visible when you open your publication.

Baseline alignment

Partially supported. Publisher 2003 supports baseline alignment. In Publisher 2002, text does not align to baselines.

Margin guides and column guides

Partially supported. Publisher 2003 supports margin guides and columns.

Wizards and designs

Partially supported. If you want to revise your publication in an earlier version of Publisher, you cannot use any wizards, designs, or design elements that are in a more recent version of Publisher.

Multiple master pages

Partially supported. Publisher 2003 supports multiple master pages. In Publisher 2002, additional master pages are converted to foreground pages.

Mail and catalog merge features

Catalog merge

Partially supported. In Publisher 2002, the catalog merge area of a catalog merge template is converted to a grouped object. Any text merge fields within the grouped object remain as merge fields in the publication. Publisher 2003 supports catalog merge.

Multiple data sources

Not supported. Publisher 2003 and Publisher 2002 will support only one data source.

Data filtering and data sorting

Supported in both Publisher 2003 and Publisher 2002. The data source (which creates the mail merge recipient list) can be sorted and individual recipients can be added or deleted from the list.

Personalized hyperlink

Not supported. Personalized hyperlinks become static hyperlinks for whatever record was in use when the publication was closed.

Merging pictures

Partially supported. Publisher 2003 supports pictures in merges. In Publisher 2002, any merge fields inserted as picture fields will not work.

Web features

Web publications

Partially supported. Publisher 2003 supports Web publications. In Publisher 2002, a Web publication is converted to a print publication.

Navigation bar wizards

Not supported. Any navigation bars that are created in the most recent version of Publisher are converted to grouped objects, and you are not able to edit the navigation bar by using a wizard. The hyperlinks in the navigation bar remain functional.

Important: You can save an Office Publisher 2007 file in Publisher 2000 , but certain features are not supported. For more information, see the Office Publisher 2007 features that are not supported in Publisher 2000 section.

    If necessary, switch to the drive and folder where you want to save the publication.

Partially supported. Publisher clip art that is saved in your publication is not lost. You can add new clip art only if Office Publisher 2007 is installed.

Flipped graphics

Not supported. Flipped graphics are converted to their original orientation.

Linked graphics

Not supported. All linked graphics become embedded.

Publication layout

Partially supported. The publication is laid out according to your default printer settings. This may result, for example, in changed line breaks in text boxes.

Mail merge with Microsoft Office Outlook

Not supported.

Mail merge with data from Microsoft Office programs

Partially supported. Mail merge with data from Microsoft Office 97 files is supported. To use a data file created in a later version of an Office program, first save the file in that program's Office 97 file format.

Not supported. The catalog merge area of a catalog merge template is converted to a grouped object. Any text merge fields within the grouped object remain as merge fields in the publication.
