Add route gateway

Choose a media gateway to which calls should be routed.

Select the Gateway Address

In this drop-down list box, click the name of the server to be used as a media gateway. This list contains the fully qualified domain names (FQDNs) of the Mediation Servers or Advanced Media Gateways that are available for this route. If this list is empty, no media gateway has been installed and configured for this Office Communications Server pool.

The ability to specify the public switched telephone network (PSTN) gateways to which various numbers are routed enables you to determine which routes incur the lowest costs and implement them accordingly. Typically, you specify gateways by choosing the one closest to the location of the destination number in order to minimize long-distance charges. For example, if you are in New York and calling a number in Rome, you would carry the call over the IP network to the gateway in your Rome office, thereby incurring a charge only for a local call.

To add a gateway to a route, you must have first deployed at least one media gateway and, if necessary, Mediation Server. For a route to work, numbers routed to the gateway of the route must be localized on the gateway, using the gateway's administrative interface.
