Cancel your free trial of office 365 home

Note: To cancel another Microsoft subscription, such as a non-trial Microsoft 365 subscription, see How to cancel your Microsoft subscription.

You can cancel your Microsoft 365 Family trial within 30 days of signing up and you won't be charged.

  1. Sign in to the https://account.microsoft.com/services page using the Microsoft account that's associated with your Microsoft 365 Family trial. We can help if you can't remember the Microsoft account or password you use with Office.

  2. Under your Microsoft 365 subscription, look for the Expires on date or a Cancel link as described below.

    • If you don't see a Cancel link, and you see Paid with and None, your trial will end on the Expires on date. You don't need to cancel because no future payments will be made.

    • If you see a Cancel link under Microsoft 365 Family, select Cancel to cancel your trial.

    • If you don't see a Cancel link and you see a Turn on recurring billing link, recurring billing is turned off. Your trial will end on the Expires on date. You don't need to cancel because no future charges will be made.

After you cancel, you can use Office in View Only mode or uninstall Office

You can continue to use Office for a short time after your trial ends. Eventually, Office will run in View Only mode and will show Unlicensed Product notifications. You'll still be able to open and print your documents but you won't be able to edit them or to create new ones. You'll also lose access to the services that are included with your subscription, such as extra OneDrive storage and Skype minutes. This also applies to anyone you've shared your Microsoft 365 Family trial with.

You can uninstall Office from your PC and uninstall Office 2016 from your Mac at any time.

Note: If you need to create or edit Office documents, you can use online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote for free at Office.com. To learn more, see Get started at Office.com. If you're using a Windows 10 device, you may already have the free Office Mobile apps installed. To learn more, see Office Mobile apps for Windows 10: Getting started.
