Turn on text messaging notifications

Before you can choose which types of text messaging notifications you want to receive on your mobile device, you must turn on notifications.

To get to these settings, in Outlook Web App, click Settings > Options > Phone > Text messaging.

Note:  This feature is currently available in specific regions (United States, Canada, and Romania), and for specific mobile service providers within those regions. To review the list of supported mobile service providers for your region, in Outlook Web App, select Settings > Options > Phone > Text messaging > Set up notifications. Then, select Turn on notifications.

What else do I need to know?

Turn on text messaging notifications

1. On the Text messaging tab in the Outlook Web App options, click Turn on notifications.

2. In the Text messaging dialog box, select your locale. Here's the list of locales that are supported in this release of the product:

   United States

   Canada

   Romania

3. In the Text messaging dialog box, select your mobile operator and click Next. For example, here's the list of mobile providers that are supported in the United States region:

   AT&T

   Sprint

   T-Mobile

   Verizon

4. Enter your phone number and click Next. At this point, Outlook Web App will send a text message to your mobile device.

5. On your mobile device, open the text message that Outlook Web App sent. The text message includes the passcode that you need to use to finish setting up messaging notifications. If you didn't receive the text message from Outlook Web App, click I didn't receive a passcode and need it sent again.

6. In the Text messaging dialog box, in Passcode, enter the passcode that was included in the text message that was sent to your mobile device, and then click Finish.

After you turn on text messaging notifications, you need to specify when you want to receive calendar notifications and email notifications on your mobile device. For more information, see Text messaging.

After you set up text messaging notifications, you can change the phone number where you receive text messaging notifications.

1. On the Text messaging tab in the Outlook Web App options, click Change notification phone number.

2. In the Text messaging dialog box, select your locale. Here's the list of locales that are supported in this release of the product:

   United States

   Canada

   Romania

3. In the Text messaging dialog box, select your mobile operator, and then click Next. For example, here's the list of mobile providers that are supported in the United States region:

   AT&T

   Sprint

   T-Mobile

   Verizon

4. Enter your phone number and click Next. At this point, Outlook Web App will send a text message to your mobile device.

5. On your mobile device, open the text message that Outlook Web App sent. The text message includes the passcode that you need to finish setting up text messaging notifications. If you didn't receive the text message from Outlook Web App, click I didn't receive a passcode and need it sent again.

6. In the Text messaging dialog box, in Passcode, enter the passcode that was included in the text message that was sent to your mobile device, and then click Finish.

What else do I need to know?

• Your mobile operator will charge for each text message you send, including those sent and received via Outlook Web App.

• After you turn on text messaging notifications, you need to specify when you want to receive the notifications on your mobile device. For more information, see Text messaging.
