Issue: Workbook items that have the same name are not shown in Excel Services

Symptoms

When you publish a workbook to Excel Services, you receive an error message that informs you that you have selected two or more items with the same name. In Excel Services, only one of these items will be available.

Cause

On the Show tab in the Excel Services Options dialog box, you have selected Items in the Workbook in the Show box. Under All Charts, All PivotTables, All Tables, or All Named Ranges, two or more items have been selected that have the same name.

Resolution

To show all items in Excel Services, you must rename the items so that each item has a unique name.

Rename items

In the workbook, select the item that you want to rename, and then do the following:

  • To change a chart or PivotChart name, on the Layout tab in the Properties group, click the Chart Name text box, type a new name, and then press ENTER.

  • To change a PivotTable name, on the Options tab in the PivotTable group, click the PivotTable Name text box, type a new name, and then press ENTER.

  • To change a table name, on the Design tab in the Properties group, click the Table Name text box, type a new name, and then press ENTER.

  • To change the name of a named range, on the Formulas tab in the Defined Names group, click Define Name, and then type a new name in the Name box.

Tip: You can also type a different name in the Name Box on the formula bar. For more information, see Use names to clarify formulas.
