Graphic file types

Microsoft Picture Manager allows you to manage your pictures, including viewing, editing, and copmressing the files.

Note: Picture Manager is not supported in Office 2013 and later versions.

The following table lists file types and what you can do with them.

File type

What you can do

JPEG

View, edit, and compress the files.

WMF/EMF

View and compress the files. You can also save the file to a format that Picture Manager lets you edit.

TIFF

View and edit the first page only and compress the files.

GIF

View, edit, and compress the files. You cannot view the animation for an animated GIF. The image will be static. If you edit the file and save over the original file, you will lose the animation.

PNG

View, edit, and compress the files.

BMP

View, edit, and compress the files.

Note: With non-graphic file types and unsupported graphic file types you will have limited choices. You can view a list of these files, but you cannot view or edit their content in Picture Manager.
