Onedrive release notes

This means not all customers will receive the new features right away, but you can expect it to come to your device soon. If you have a Microsoft 365 work or school account, the timing of when you receive new features may also depend on your organization's settings.

What's new

  • You can now display your media files on a Chromecast receiver or TV from a compatible device. Look for a Cast icon showing in the top toolbar. We hope you enjoy this top-requested feature!

Current and pre-release versions

  • Join the OneDrive Preview for Android and get early access to new features in the OneDrive Android app.

  • Note: The Google Play store and the OneDrive app for Android aren't available in China. Also, because OneDrive.com is blocked in China by the government firewall, the OneDrive app won't work in China when you sign in with a Microsoft account.

OneDrive for Android release notes

Improvements wouldn't be possible without your feedback. If you run into any issues, please open the app, shake your device and tap "Report a Problem."

  • We've added a new Home tab to help you pick up where you left off, fast. The new Home tab prominently features your Recent view for easy access to your files and an Offline Files section to quickly access and manage files you've downloaded for offline access.

  • You can find On this Day for OneDrive personal users, and Shared Libraries for work or school in Home as well.

  • You can also reorder the sections in settings.

  • If your device supports it, you can now set up OneDrive to unlock with your face.

  • We're proud to announce that this release of OneDrive finally brings balance to the force: you can now enjoy Dark Theme and an epic new set of Microsoft icons throughout the app.

  • Photo enthusiasts that sign in with a consumer Microsoft account can now enjoy memories of years past: just visit your Photos tab to relive photos taken in previous years on this same day.

  • Note that you now need Android 6.0 or newer to install the OneDrive Android app.

What's new

  • Occasionally, the app would crash when tapping 'Send' in the 'Send Feedback' flow. This was ironic and has been fixed.

  • This update also contains other bug fixes and stability improvements.

Current and pre-release versions

  • Download OneDrive for iOS - v12.45 (August 25, 2021)

Note: If you are using iOS 11 you can only update the OneDrive app. New installations of the OneDrive app need to be on iOS 13 or newer.

  • Join the OneDrive Preview for iOS and get early access to new features in the OneDrive iOS app.

OneDrive for iOS release notes

Improvements wouldn't be possible without your feedback. If you run into any issues, please open the app, shake your device and tap "Report a Problem."

  • VoiceOver should now work more reliably when searching for files and folders, and now identifies folder names as headings.

  • Added email addresses weren't available with VoiceOver in the Create folder menu. This has been fixed.

  • The Details view would stay open after deleting a file. This has been fixed.

  • Files with upper case extensions weren't displaying with their proper icons. This has been fixed.

  • Reading the sharing information in the Details view was unnecessarily challenging in Dark Mode. This has been fixed.

  • Changing custom file metadata properties when saving a scan to a shared library wasn't working for "Photo" mode scans. This has been fixed.

  • Some PDFs were showing text boxes filled with the same color as the text when opened in Adobe Reader which made them very hard to read. We've fixed the underlying issue in our PDF editor so now text boxes added in our app will reflect the expected colors.

  • Voiceover wasn't focusing on the delete dialog when deleting files from the Recycle Bin, this has been fixed.

  • Some videos would occasionally close during playback with a "Video cannot play" message. This has been fixed.

  • You can once again make writes to your OneDrive files from the iOS Files app.

  • When using VoiceOver on the Plans page, there was no indication that some features required particular plans. This has been fixed and now VoiceOver will indicate when a feature is included with each plan. VoiceOver will now read out the buttons in the sign in navigation bar.

  • The app header would sometimes turn white after using the Take a photo command, making it very hard to use the + button, which is also white, in light mode. This has been fixed and the header will stay blue again, keeping the + button visible.

  • The See All button in the Home view was appearing in English in all languages, which was puzzling. This has been fixed and now you can "see" it appearing properly in "all" our supported languages.

  • Some images would appear squished when viewed in a folder and cropped when tapped on and opened in the app. This has been fixed. Thank you to the observant customers who reported this to us and helped us improve.

  • VoiceOver was announcing irrelevant information for a close button in some screens. You will now hear a cleaner, simpler description.

  • We're actively working on improving our integration with the iOS Files app and have temporarily set it in read only mode. You'll still be able to open OneDrive files in the iOS Files app and use it to attach files, but you won't be able to save or edit files in the iOS Files app. We know this is not ideal and are working to improve the experience as quickly as possible. In the meantime, the OneDrive app remains fully functional.

  • The upload progress bar shown for Live Photos was often ahead of where it should have been. As much as we appreciated the can-do attitude, we gave it a reality check. This is now fixed.

  • Files over 100MB in size were often failing to upload. This has been fixed.

  • The PDF viewer was failing to read out the contents of files with VoiceOver. This bug is now fixed and you can once again use VoiceOver to easily read out and navigate the file text.

  • For Live Photos where the "Live" aspect was set to off while editing, the app used to upload the photo and the video, which was unexpected. This has been fixed and now only the photo will be uploaded in this scenario. Thank you to those who pointed this out and helped us improve.

  • The Albums button in Photos tab wasn't being read out properly by VoiceOver, making it difficult to navigate. This has been fixed.

  • For some users, the Libraries tab was overlapping with other icons, making it very hard to use. This has been fixed and the tabs are keeping their distance once more.

  • For business users, the Open Site button on Shared Libraries wasn't responding to VoiceOver. This has been fixed and now you can use VoiceOver to launch the Open Site button and navigate to the full site.

  • The VoiceOver label on the plans page was failing to mention what premium apps were included with your Microsoft 365 subscription. This has been fixed and VoiceOver will now read out the full app list of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, and of course, OneDrive.

  • Changing the date on your device would sometimes get the app to crash constantly. This has been fixed.

Whether you use OneDrive for your personal photos and files or for work or school, we've got a big app update for you.

For iOS 13 & 14 users, we've got a new tab, just for you:

  • We've added a new Home tab to help you pick up where you left off, fast. The new Home tab prominently features your Recent view for easy access to your files and an Offline Files section to quickly access and manage files you've downloaded for offline access.

  • For OneDrive personal users, On This Day is now featured at the top of your new Home tab.

  • For users of OneDrive at work or school, you can easily get to your Shared Libraries right from the Home tab.

We're thrilled to offer iOS 14 users a OneDrive widget. We've made 2 improvements to it in this update:

  • We've fixed an issue causing an unexpected dialog to show when you tapped the widget to sign into a personal account.

  • We've improved our widget to show even sharper, crisper image previews.

We're continuing to invest and improve the Camera Upload feature. We've heard your feedback and we're investing in this experience. There's still more to do and we're constantly working to improve, so stay tuned.

  • We've updated how we upload your camera roll photos to increase the upload performance, uploading more content with fewer calls.

  • The camera upload feature will now pause if the app can't access all your photos and provide easy steps to get it running again.

  • We've fixed a bug causing the app to terminate in the background for many users.

  • We fixed a bug with the notification for "Camera Upload has stopped" which was causing it be quite noisy and annoying.

We've added some additional improvements to help you work with your files and folders:

  • There was a crash affecting on premises users directly after sign in. This has been fixed.

  • We updated our folder iconography to better highlight shared status in list and grid view. This also comes with subtle improvements to some Office file type icons in the app.

  • We've added Scribble support, allowing users to write in any text field, including PDF annotation mode, so your writing will automatically be converted to typed text.

  • Our loading screens now shimmer with a little more predictability and pizazz than they did before.

  • We fixed a visual bug with where the + button wasn't showing with the right colors in Dark Mode.

  • We fixed an issue with our accessibility label for InputTextField so this can be read properly by VoiceOver.

  • We updated our logic for calculating when you might be in a meeting to optimize our "Meeting Note Share" feature which enables you to easily share your scans taken during a meeting with other attendees.

  • We fixed a crash in our app that sometimes occurred when attempting to take a scan.

  • Your Offline Files list will now be sorted from newest to oldest, as you'd expect. For those curious, this list was previously sorted on an internal database identifier - which while great for our internal database, had no place informing the file sort order.

  • The rename dialog would pop around unpredictably on the iPad. Giving an important file or folder a great name is already hard enough, so this annoying game of tag has been fixed.

  • The "Link Settings" menu failed to show up after tapping the "Save to Files" command in the Share menu. This has been fixed.

  • One of our helpful teaching bubbles was misplaced on iPad. This has been fixed, so any eagle-eyed new users (and our designers) can rest easy.

  • Circles, squares, and lines, oh my. PDF mark up isn't in Kansas anymore, now you can add shapes.

  • Sometimes, when attempting to upload something via the share extension, it would show the last item that you uploaded via the share extension, rather than the newly-selected one. Other times, the correct item would show, but it would be stuck in a waiting state after you hit upload. Both of these issues have been fixed.

  • Did you know that your photos are searchable? Find the memory you are looking for with the new search bar in the Photos tab. Dog, cat, flower, sunrise--search away!

  • iPad users sometimes saw the the wrong file size displayed when downloading a photo or video to their device. This was very confusing and has been fixed.

  • Our scan button used to shrink whenever we showed a toast message. It got tired, took a long nap and hasn't been shrinking properly lately. Thankfully, it's now awake, fully rested and will animate when it's supposed to.

What's new in OneDrive web

  • We removed the full photo view option from non-photo folders in order to make pages load more quickly. The full photo view option is still available in the Photos tab.

What's new in the OneDrive Store app

  • Dark mode is now supported. You can find the option in Settings & More > Settings.

  • The Search experience has been improved to navigate to or launch preview of the selected search suggestion.

  • Bug fixes to improve reliability & performance.

OneDrive Store app - Current versions

  • Download OneDrive Store app - v19.22.5 (November 4, 2019)

Important: The OneDrive Store app does not sync your files. Read Which OneDrive app? to see if you're getting the most out of OneDrive or learn how to identify which version of OneDrive you are currently using.

OneDrive web release notes

  • Maximum file upload size updated to 250 GB. For transferring large files or lots of files, we recommend adding the files to the OneDrive desktop app rather than using the Upload button on the website.
