Troubleshoot a task, e-mail message, or appointment in Business Contact Manager

Troubleshoot a task, e-mail message, or appointment in Business Contact Manager

Note: This article has done its job, and will be retiring soon. To prevent "Page not found" woes, we're removing links we know about. If you've created links to this page, please remove them, and together we'll keep the web connected.

There are multiple copies of an e-mail message in the Communication History folder

An e-mail message appears more than once in the Communication History folder when it is linked to multiple records. For example, a message linked to an Account record and two Business Contact records is listed three times in the Communication History folder.

If you unlink an e-mail message from a record, Business Contact Manager for Outlook removes only the corresponding link from the Communication History folder.

I removed an e-mail message, task, or appointment from a record, and it disappeared from the Communication History folder

When you unlink a Communication History item from an individual record, Business Contact Manager for Outlook removes the corresponding link from the Communication History folder. Similarly, if you unlink a communication history item from the Communication History folder, Business Contact Manager for Outlook unlinks the item from its corresponding record.

I can't link my encrypted, restricted, or private e-mail message to a record

Linking to an encrypted, restricted, or private e-mail makes the contents of that e-mail available not only to the sender and the recipient, but also to anyone else with access to the shared database. Because this action undoes the sender's intention that the information remain confidential, Business Contact Manager for Outlook does not support linking to e-mail messages that are encrypted, nor does it allow linking to e-mail messages with restricted permissions that were created by using Microsoft Information Rights Management.

Business Contact Manager for Outlook does allow linking to e-mail messages that are private, but it does not create those links automatically. To link a private e-mail message to a record, you must do it manually.

I turned off the E-mail Auto-Linking feature, but my e-mail is being linked anyway

Turn off the automatic e-mail linking each time you create a new folder.

  1. On the Business Contact Manager menu, click Manage E-mail Auto-linking.

  2. In the Manage E-Mail Auto-Linking dialog box, click the Folders tab, and then click Clear All.

Business Contact Manager for Outlook will not let me submit billable time for recurring appointments

To prevent accidental submissions of billable time, Business Contact Manager for Outlook does not support submitting billable time in a group for recurring appointments. You must bill each occurrence of a recurring appointment individually.

How?

  1. In Calendar, open the recurring appointment.

  2. In the Open Recurring Item dialog box, select Open this occurrence, and then click OK.

  3. Submit the billable time for that occurrence.

A reminder to Back up Business Contact Manager Database. is included in my list of tasks, but I didn't add it.

When Business Contact Manager for Outlook is installed, a reminder to Back up your Business Contact Manager Database is automatically added to your Task list. To remove the reminder, delete the task, or mark it complete.
