Cortana is your personal assistant on your Windows 10 device. Cortana in Windows 10 is already great at letting you quickly see what your day is going to look like, see when and where your first meeting is, get a sense of travel times to work, or even get updates from your calendar for upcoming trips. Cortana gets even better as she connects to Office 365, which enhances her ability to help you prepare for meetings learn about the people you work with, and remind you where you need to be next so you won't be late.

You're always in control of your data with Cortana. We've made it simple for you to turn off Cortana for your organization if you like.

Info for admins

There are a few things to be aware of before you start using Cortana in Office 365.

  • If you run into issues, check out these troubleshooting tips.

  • Cortana can only access data in your Office 365 organization when it is enabled. You can turn Cortana off in the Office 365 admin center if you don't want Cortana to access your organization's data.

  • To use Cortana, people in your organization must be signed in to Cortana with their work or school account and must authorize Cortana to access Office 365 on their behalf. They can sign in through Cortana's Notebook.

  • Cortana isn't a service covered by the Office 365 Trust Center. Learn more about how Cortana treats your data.

  • Check out the mobile device management controls for Windows 10 devices here. Cortana can also access email and calendar data from users through various client apps.

Turn off Cortana in Office 365

If you don't want Cortana to access your organization's data, you can turn Cortana off in the Office 365 admin center.

  1. Sign in to Office 365 with your work or school account.

  2. Go to the Office 365 admin center.

  3. Go to Settings > Services and add-ins > Cortana.

  4. Click Cortana to toggle Cortana off.

Windows 10 users

There are a few things to be aware of before you start using Cortana in Office 365. If you run into issues, check out these troubleshooting tips.

  • To use Cortana in Office 365 scenarios, you must set up the Windows 10 Outlook Universal Mail and Calendar apps with Office 365. (Support for using Cortana with Outlook on the desktop is planned for a later release.)

  • Cortana with Office 365 only works on Windows 10 devices and is available in only certain languages and markets today.
