Add pictures and other graphics

Add pictures and other graphics

Adding media, such as pictures or other graphics, can make your publication more visually appealing. You can also add maps, which can help customers find your business.

After you insert media into your publication, you can move or resize it as you would pictures or other publication elements.

If you want to insert a picture from another program, you can copy and paste it. The pasted picture might not appear the way you expected, but copying and pasting may be the best way to use a picture from a program that is not part of the 2007 Microsoft Office system.

What do you want to do?

Insert media from the Content Library

The Content Library is a single location where you can store logos, lists of services, success stories, testimonials, maps to a business location, and pictures that you plan to reuse in marketing materials. After you add media to the Content Library, you can insert it in publications.

  1. On the Insert menu, click Item from Content Library.

  2. In the Content Library task pane, in the Category list, select the category that you want, such as Business.

  3. In the Type list, select the content that you want, such as Shapes.

Note: Different media is separated into different types. For example, business logos are separated into the Group type. If you can't find the picture that you added to the Content Library, select (All).

  4. In the Sort by list, select the option that you want, such as Date Created.

  5. In the list of results, point to the media that you want, click the arrow, and then click Insert.

Insert media directly from a scanner or a digital camera

Before you begin, make sure that:

  • Your device is TWAIN-compatible or WIA-compatible.

  • Your device is connected to your computer.

  • You have installed the device software that supports TWAIN or WIA.

Some devices come with more than one software program. If you are not sure what software is TWAIN-compatible or WIA-compatible, check the device documentation or contact the manufacturer of the device.

You should also make sure that the picture that you want is in the scanner or camera.

  1. On the Objects toolbar, click Picture Frame Button image , and then click Empty Picture Frame Empty Picture Frame .

  2. Click the place in your publication where you want to locate the picture, and then drag the Adjust handle of the empty picture frame until you have the size that you want.

  3. Right-click the empty picture frame, point to Change Picture, and then click From Scanner or Camera.

  4. In the Insert Picture from Scanner or Camera dialog box, select the device that you want to use (if you have multiple devices attached to your computer).

  5. Do one of the following:

    • If the selected device is a scanner and you want to use default settings for scanning the image, click Web Quality (for pictures that you want to display on a screen) or Print Quality (for pictures that you want to print), and then click Insert to scan your picture.

Note: If the Insert button is unavailable, the scanner software might not support an automatic scan. Click Custom Insert instead.

    • If the selected device is not a scanner (for example, if it is a digital camera), or if you want to customize any settings before you scan the picture, click Custom Insert, and then follow the instructions that come with the device that you're using.

  6. Locate the folder that contains the picture that you want to insert, select the picture, and then click Get Pictures.

Important: Some Design Gallery objects — such as advertisements, calendars, coupons, logos, and navigation bars — have customization options.
