Copying items in a list view in SharePoint Workspace 2010

Copying items in a list view in SharePoint Workspace 2010

This topic describes the following tasks:

Using Cut, Copy, and Paste in a list view

Cutting or Copying item data from an external list in a SharePoint workspace

Using Cut, Copy, and Paste in a list view

In a SharePoint list or a Lists tool in a Groove workspace, you can cut or copy items in a list view using standard Cut, Copy, and Paste commands. This is generally useful when you want to add many items that contain similar information. For example, you can add one item, fill out all fields, use Copy and Paste to duplicate the item several times, and then open and edit fields in each duplicate item.

You might use Cut and Paste to move a Response item to another location in a hierarchical list.

Note the following behavior rules:

  • You can cut or copy only one item at a time.

  • A pasted response item gets placed as a child of the currently selected item.

  • You can cut or copy items from one Lists tool to another only if the custom tool design in the source and target Lists tools are compatible. Source and target custom tools are incompatible if any of the following is true:

    • The source custom tool is a different version of the tool. For example, you cannot copy items from a 2007 Forms or InfoPath Forms tool to a 2010 Lists tool.

    • The items copied from the source tool are derived from a form template not found in the target tool. In some cases, tools that appear to be similar may contain items derived from different form templates.

Cutting or Copying item data from an external list in a SharePoint workspace

External lists in a SharePoint workspace do not support using Cut, Copy, and Paste to move or duplicate items in the list view. However, you can copy item data, including metadata, and paste it into a text editor such as Microsoft Word.

  1. Right-click the item you want to copy, and then click Copy.

  2. Paste the copied item data into a text editor.
