View crawl logs

View crawl logs

The crawl log contains the current status of every item in the content index.

  1. On the Search Administration page, under Crawling, click Crawl log.

    On the Crawl Log page, you can click View by URL, to specify filters on the content sources, status, and status messages that the log has captured.

  2. On the Crawl Log page, you can click View by host name to select the hostname for which you want crawl log information.

    You can filter the list of hosts by how their URLs begin by using the Find URLs that begin with the following hostname/path box.

  3. The crawl log changes to a view that show the content crawled by URL.

    You can filter the results by using the filter settings.

    Filter settings

    • Find URLs that begin with the following hostname/path      For example, to view all links that start with http://office/docs, type office/docs (you can also include the protocol).

    • Show messages occurring later than      Enter a date and time to display links crawled after that date and time.

    • Show messages occurring earlier than      Enter a date and time to display links crawled before that date and time.

    • Content Sources      Select a content source from the list to limit the links displayed to that content source.

    • Status Type      Select either All (shows all crawled links), Success (shows successfully crawled links), Warning (shows links crawled but with a warning), or Error (shows links that have not been crawled because an error occurred).

    • Last Status Message      The list for this option changes according to your selections. Select this option if you want to filter according to the last status message for the crawled content.

  4. After you configure the filter settings, click Filter.

  5. To visit a URL reported in the crawl log, click the URL. You may be asked for account credentials that have the right to browse that URL.
